Your Wealth
Financial wellness plays a major role in our overall health because money affects many of the choices we make every day. When people struggle financially, stress levels rise, which can lead to anxiety, depression, and poor sleep. Constant worry about bills or debt keeps our bodies in a prolonged state of stress that weakens the immune system.
Lack of money often limits access to basic health needs such as nutritious food, safe housing, and regular medical care. People may delay doctor visits, skip medications, or choose cheaper, unhealthy food options. Over time, these compromises can increase the risk of chronic illnesses like heart disease, hypertension and diabetes.
Consider these questions:
-
Do you have an emergency fund to cover your living expenses for at least 6 months?
-
Are you working consistently towards income replacement (retirement)?
-
What will you leave to your family when you pass away - debt or wealth?
Financial strain also impacts mental and emotional well-being, affecting relationships and self-esteem. Feeling powerless about money can lead to isolation and unhealthy coping behaviors such as substance use. Improving financial wellness can reduce stress, support healthier decisions, and create a stronger foundation for both physical and mental health.
Your Health
Many health blogs and publications embrace the adverse effects of poor health habits, provide ominous warnings about illness and disease and share a multitude of adverse and side effects of medications that can be taken to treat these conditions. I firmly believe in the old saying that “an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.”
Good food is essential for good health and preparing nutritious, tasty meals at home helps us to save money while eating healthy food. The kitchen remains a great place to connect with family and friends. Good food tastes good, keeps us alive and well, and is a never-ending source of joy!
There are 3 pillars of physical health - nutrition, exercise and sleep. We should eat a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Engage in regular physical activity, aiming for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week, and prioritize quality sleep by aiming for 7-9 hours each night to support recovery and overall well-being.
